First Impression: Soultanicals Afro Gel-ato
Hey ya’ll! It’s been a while but I’m back. So what ‘s my first impression of the Soultanicals Afro Gel-ato hair styler? Well, first of all let’s talk about the brand. I simply love the names of their products as they smell as good as they are catchy. I have some of the brand’s products currently in review. But for now, allow me to talk about this new gel that was just recently added to Soultanical’s entourage. Below is my rate system that I have used in the past. It works well to keep my reviews and first impressions consistent.
Scent: Has a faint sweet scent, nothing overpowering. It’s good.
Consistency: Slimy but not stick
Price and Availability: Soultanicals always has sales so you can get this for a great price. Retail price however is on $13 for 8oz. A reasonable price. It’s not sold in stores in Los Angeles so all orders that I place will have to be online. I have only ordered from this company twice. I’m looking forward to a better shipping experience. Since a lot of my natural hair purchases in the past have been online, and I know companies that are muy rapido when it comes to shipping. It’s like Christmas!
Slip: Great slip. Easy to detangle with this styler
Drying time: This gel dried within 4-5 hours so that’s pretty quick for me
Elongation- I got some serious shrinkage but don’t mind it because I know how to stretch my hair (look for a vid soon :))
Staying Power- Gel-ato had a soft hold with no crunch
Frizz- By the end of the night my hair started to get frizz in the front of my hairline along and the crown where I have the most coarse texture. In both areas, I normally add more product which I did. Still no change.
Routine: Of course as always I used the LOC Method. Used an oil mix made by B.A.S.K. to lock in the water on my freshly washed and soaking wet hair. Next, I applied the Soultanicals Marula Muru Moisture Guru. The Marula Muru does contain glycerin which my hair is not the best fan of. I do try use products from the line in order to see how well they pair together. However, I will pair this non glycerin gel with a non glycerin leave in condish and check my out if the results are different.
My first impression of the gel is that it didn’t attack my problem areas where I needed hold. I am pairing the gel with other staple leave in conditioners that are must haves for me. If the gel survives, then it can be added to the arsenal.
Looking forward to trying more products with this one! Have you tried this gel! Let me know! :)
Ta Ta for now…
